So I’d like to talk about Pixar’s “UP” movie for a bit:

It. ROCKS.

I could leave it there, but I’m going to continue. The reasons it ROCKS is as follows:
-It has heart. If you’ve read any review, no doubt you’ve heard that you might be crying 10 minutes in. This is one movie that doesn’t shy away from any emotions, no matter how mature or distressing it might be. Serious topics such as the death of loved ones, life after that, broken families, and friendships are very artistically and very accurately displayed. It goes over the top a bit to makes its point with the happier emotions, but hey, its still a cartoon.

-It has humor. Duh, it’s Pixar. Of course its going to have that classic, timeless humor that no other 3D cartoon studio has been able to match yet. I would say its not AS funny as some of Pixar’s greatest, like Monster’s INC or Toy Story, but it certainly isn’t lacking either.

-It has a classic fairy tale whimsy-ness to it. To me, the movie looks and plays like a kids storybook. The characters and concepts are completely ridiculous from a reality perspective, but once you start watching it, you don’t even question an old man dragging his house across the jungle. I just kept asking myself “How the hell did the writer/creator convince people to do this?!” It’s really random, but works really well.

If you’ve never liked Pixar’s movie (are you dead inside?) then I doubt this will change anything. But if you do, this is easily one of their best — I’m not sure if its possible to beat Toy Story, but this is the closest they’ve come.
