Is XY still around? Did anyone else even read them? I look back on some of the staples of my new-gayness: XY, PlanetOut, the Abercrombie and Fitch catalog…and its shocking how much I forget they even ever existed. And now, I’m overwhelmed with how many gay-specific social networking sites there are. I’m losing track. Facebook is constantly showing my targeted ads for sites that I have no interest in, but I KNOW that there are people with profiles on most, if not all, of these networks. Whatever happened to the classic days of leaving your AIM buddy list on, so that new guys could bug you into sending you nudie pics?
Don’t even get me started on gay.com. Or rainbow star tattoos.

There was a big to-do in July 2010 over the current owners of what’s left of XY Magazine wanting to sell the subscriber info, despite that info being explicitly said to never be available for sale:
