…and the Lord taketh away:

Right on the heals of the Prop 8 ruling, the universe has come back with a way to make me feel bad.  If you’re too lazy to click the link it basically says that Triceratops never existed.  Just they’re younger versions of the much less cool Torosaurus.  Hey Science?  Sometimes you really really suck.

To quote Eddie, our new contributor here, “Oh Pluto, I still believe in you.”  Why can’t Science just leave our childhoods alone?

    from here: http://dinosaurs.suite101.com/article.cfm/has-triceratops-really-been-torosaurus-all-these-years

“Now that two species of dinosaurs have become one, the question remains as to which one will become extinct all over again?

The name Triceratops was attributed to the three-horned dinosaur in 1889 by Othniel C. Marsh. It wasn’t until 3 years later, that the name Torosaurus came to be, and in the dinosaur world, it’s He-Who-is-First-Named that remains. That’s bad news for Torosaurus, but good news for admirers of three horns everywhere.”

Triceratops will live on… torosaurus (who nobody knew about anyway) will not.
